Recycled garden art

An old recycled copper plate became the focal point of my latest garden art. I have had the record for many years and did not really know what I was going to use it for. But then I got the idea to make a wooden gallows and hang it up. It was obvious it was supposed to be lacquer red. It is reminiscent of a Chinese gong-gong.

For me, decorating the garden in exciting spaces is just as important as decorating the inside of my house. I love going from garden space to garden space and experiencing nature, plants and garden art.

The old Sir Edwards Lutyen’s garden bench needed a coat of paint and of course it had to be lacquer red as well.

You need 2 pcs. 10 x 10 cm. x 3m. and 2 pcs. 10 x 10 cm. x 2.7m. pressure impregnated posts, 2 bags of concrete post, a pile drill, a broom and a watering can of water.

It is not difficult to build the wooden gallows. Drill two holes with a pile drill, approx. 70 cm. deep, place the post in the hole, level it out so that they are straight and evenly deep in the ground, put some of the soil from the bore down around the post and stamp the ground around the post with the end of a broom. Next, fill the hole with post concrete up to approx. 10 cm. before the grass edge and stamp the concrete with the end of the broom. Pour water into the hole on top of the concrete and put soil in the hole until it reaches the ground edge. Let it harden until the next day.

Cut 4 pcs. the inclined struts in 90g. of one post (2.7m.) so that they measure 46cm. on the long joint and 28cm. on the short joint. Take the second post (2.7m.) And cut the ends diagonally. Lay the post up on the 2 cast-in posts, measure out so that it protrudes equally far on both sides of the posts and drill it firmly into the 2 cast-in posts. Next, drill the 4 sloping braces into the posts and the overlay.

The plate is hung up in 2 hooks which are drilled up in the overlay post and hung down for approx. 75 cm. copper chain. I drilled 2 holes in the copper plate and put 2 s hooks in between the chain and the plate.

It took me 3 days to make and paint the gong-gong and the bench. It will not be the last garden art I will make. It has been really fun; 0)

I love the beautiful moment picture of my old dad and my and my dad’s old friend as they sit there and cuddle talking on the freshly painted bench. They dress each other, the two old friends and the old garden bench; 0)
