Are we going to play? It’s therapy to do decoupage and it’s the easiest form of creative play. It’s also an obvious way to do something with your children and grandchildren. It’s easy, cheap and recycling. Donald Duck comics can be bought in any recycling for very little and old flower pots as well. It requires canned paint spray, lacquer, a brush, gold leaf( can be omitted), spray glue, snow glitter, steel wire and ribbon.
It is a great gift idea to Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa and friends or to yourself ;0)
Start by taking a trip to the recycling shops and find old pots and Donald Duck comics.
Back home, the pots are spray-painted in the colours you want. Please note that it takes 1 day before the paint is dry, so if you would like to start the decoupage directly, then paint the pots a few days before.
Cut your favorite parts of the Donald Duck comics. Select the pictures you’d like to have on the pots. For the balls, the images must be cut into smaller triangles in order for them to be glued to curved surfaces.
Apply a thin layer of glue lacquer to the surface, brush the glue thinly and place the Donald Duck image on the glue and brush it on.
On the balls, brush the image triangles on until there is no more room to hold on to a dry ball. Then the ball needs to dry, before you can hold it again without your fingers sticking to glue. I use a wooden stick which is stuck in the ball and then put to dry in a vase.
When the ball and pot are dry, all surfaces are re-brushed with glue lacquer to close the surfaces and to get the lacquered surfaces finely glossy. They dry in a little hour.
If you want a gold edge on your pot, with an index finger you need to put glue varnish on the edge of the pictures and very gently tear leaf metal into small pieces and pad them on the glue. It’s a job of patience, but it’s going to be great. When it is dry, brush it with lacquer glue, so that the gold is stuck.
If you want the balls to have snow glitter, half the ball must be sprayed with spray glue and sprinkled with snow glitter. Let it dry half an hour and spray with hair spray to close the snow surface. The ball is now ready for bows.
If the ball is to hang, a piece of wire is glued to the ball with a glue gun, as shown here. Next, cut ribbons and glue on to the ball. Enjoy ;0)
